He said to Me, ‘You are My Son, Today I have begotten You.
‘Ask of Me, and I will surely give the nations as Your inheritance,
And the very ends of the earth as Your possession. Psalm 2:7-8
What was your father like growing up? My earthly father is the most generous, loving, and kind individual I know. Growing up with him as my dad was a blend of wonder, love, amazement, fun, and firmness. Psalm 2 tells us that God has chosen us as his child. How amazing is that?!
God has sent a decree that Jesus would be our redeemer. No matter what is going on in life, we have that hope of redemption and grace. The grace that God showed by sending his son [Jesus] to be the sacrifice for our sins (John 3:16) is paramount in our minds (at least it should be!).
“For God so loved the world, that He gave His [a]only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life. (John 3:16)
What is this inheritance that is being spoken of? When a father dies on earth, he leaves his children an inheritance. Sometimes it is money/earthly possessions, other times it is knowledge, wisdom, and love. When it comes to our inheritance from Christ, it is eternal life! “And this is eternal life, that they know you the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent.” (John 17:3)
